For this project we were given a timeline, a list of suspects with their family information, finger prints, DNA samples, hair samples, a murder weapon, and crime screen evidence. With the given information we had to find who murdered Carelton Comet and what to charge the defendant with.
CONTENT:
Gel electrophoresis is a laboratory method used to separate mixtures of DNA, RNA, or proteins according to molecular size
DNA fingerprinting is a laboratory technique used to establish a link between biological evidence and a suspect in a criminal investigation
Fingerprint lifting is the process of securing copies of fingerprints that are left at a crime scene
Cross-matching blood refers to the test that is performed to blood in order to determine the blood type
Pedigree is the record of descent of an animal, showing it to be purebred
Molarity The unit of molarity is expressed in moles per kilogram. The formula for molarity is m = moles of solute / kilograms of solvent.
Chromatography is a method of separating out materials from a mixture. Ink has several dyes so we can separate those colors from one another using chromatography to find a match.
Karyotyping is a test to identify and evaluate the size, shape, and number of chromosomes in a sample of body cells. Extra or missing chromosomes, or abnormal positions of chromosome pieces, can cause disorders ad problems within the person.
REFLECTION:
During this project I learned a few things about myself. First, I learned that I can get off task easily when times get boring. A way for me to stay on task is two take a quick walk outside so I can come in the room ready to focus. Another thing I learned is I like to be the leader all the time. This can be good, but also can be bad because other people need to be the leader too. Two things I need to improve on are keeping my group on task and taking ideas from everyone. During the waiting time between testing blood it was easy to get off task. Another thing I need to improve on is taking ideas from everyone in my group. This could have helped many times during our project. In the end, I really liked this project.
